The 2011 Toyota Matrix is a compact hatchback that can carry up to five people and a lot of goods. Matrix comes in the form of base trim, as well as S. Compete with the Matrix hatchback versions of the Kia Forte and Mazda3.

Base models are equipped with four-cylinder 1.8-liter mated to either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. S comes with a four-cylinder 2.4-liter mated to either five-speed manual or automatic transmission.
All models are front-wheel drive, except for the trim all-wheel-drive specially equipped S, which uses a four-speed automatic.
Base models and S front-wheel-drive comes with a basic torsion beam rear suspension; model all-wheel-drive S background gets more complex double-wishbone suspension.
